My Statement Of Faith

Below is a post which i quote from somewhere and i think it's where i stand too. So, here is a general overview of my statement of faith:

I belong to an evangelical church, where we believe completely in the inerrancy and total authority of Scripture, as the 66 books of the Bible, and where we believe in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit and practise spiritual gifts personally and corporately (in an orderly and proper way as outlined in 1 Corinthians 14). We also emphasise the grace of God -- that we are saved by faith in Christ alone, and that you cannot lose your salvation (if you were, indeed, truly saved in the first place). We are committed to the gospel -- both the centrality of it in the life of the believer, and the spreading of it to non-Christians through preaching, evangelism and planting churches. When it comes to baptism, we do not believe in or practise infant baptism but believer's baptism -- that is, baptising those who have chosen to follow Christ, as the Bible commands (Acts 2:38).

We are part of the Evangelical Alliance, whose statement of beliefs is the following:

The one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.

In terms of theology, I would describe myself as Reformed (see here and here). This includes a firm belief in the total sovereignty of God -- that He predestines those who are to be saved and added into His Kingdom (Romans 8:29-30), that He knows all things and is over all things, and that whatever happens in our lives and in this world is allowed to happen (note: not made to happen -- God cannot produce sin) by Him for His glory. As I mentioned before, I also believe in the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit today (the opposite of cessationism) -- such as prophecy and speaking in tongues, according to the teachings of Scripture -- which makes me Charismatic (not to be confused with Pentecostal in this case). Being both Reformed and Charismatic may seem contradictory, but it is a position that is certainly possible and is successfully growing in the worldwide Church.

When it comes to my beliefs on the roles of men and women, I most definitely hold a complementarian viewpoint. This means I believe that man and woman were created equal in the image of God, with the same dignity, value and worth, but that they have different roles -- especially within marriage (see Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:18-25, and Ephesians 5:22-33). I believe firmly that men were created to be the leaders and heads of their families and homes, but not in a chauvinistic, cruel, harsh, or domineering way -- rather that their leadership is to be like that of Jesus Christ, who led by serving and loving His wife (the Church), preferring their wives' needs above their own. And women are to submit and follow that headship and leadership -- again, not in a subservient, doormat, weak, or degrading way, but rather because they trust, love and respect their husbands and their God-ordained roles as leaders. When this is done right, it is beautiful. There is no world war at home, no competing for authority; rather they are both trying to outdo each other in serving and honouring the other.

In terms of roles of men and women within the church, I agree with my own church that only men should be elders/pastors, and that those elders are the ones who set the course of the church through preaching each Sunday. I believe that women can head up ministries within the church and still teach in many settings, but that preaching should go hand-in-hand with those who are in the church's governmental authority -- the elders. (For more on this, see the excellent articles over at the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.)

Well, that pretty much covers my beliefs as a Christian. Some things that people may think I believe but do not are:

That all girls should remain at home until they are married. I do not adhere to the stay-at-home daughter philosophy as a biblical mandate for every young woman, simply because Scripture does not command it. Each family must decide before God, after careful consideration in prayer and studying the Bible, what their convictions are on this topic -- and then they must not force these convictions on those who differ, for that would be legalistic.
That all Christian families should homeschool. Again, the reasons above apply; there is nowhere in the Bible that talks about specific education that Christian children should have, only that they must be brought up in the fear and knowledge of the Lord, which can just as well be done whether a child goes to public school (the parent will need to take responsibility for making sure any false teaching their children are learning is gone over with them and corrected). Although I do like the idea of homeschooling, and would perhaps like to do it with my own future children, I know that it is one of those things where God and personal situation (e.g. where you are in the world, whether you have the time to homeschool, etc) dictate at that time.
That women must wear dresses or skirts, or clothes that were worn in the Jane Austen period, in order to be modestly dressed. This is quite absurd -- there is no dress code in the Bible; we are just told to be modest and humble in heart, and that will then transform what we feel convicted about wearing.
That courtship is the only righteous way to go about a romantic relationship. Quite simply, it just doesn't work for everyone (mature women who have lived independently for years, for example). "Christian dating" is possible, and is quite similar to courtship in the way that it stays clear of physical intimacy and "playing married" and seeks accountability from other mature Christians. At the end of the day, it's not the term that you use which really counts, it's how you actually live out the relationship before God and His people -- seeking to honour Him in all things, and to love and serve the person you are courting/dating.

I also reject the prosperity gospel, as it is a gross distortion of what Jesus died and rose for and is biblically unsound.

Today i went to play basketball. It have been long time i didnt play basketball. As i have mention in my blog earlier at 2007 while i was in KL that i wan to play in competition when i back here. Earlier this year, God answer my prayer. I was able to compete under tuition centre's team, PTS. Though we didnt manage to win but it was really an experience.

I think since then i havent been touching the basketball due to work. Then recently, i was asked to play again, this time under Lee Clan's team. The competition will be held in Sibu next weekend. So, i have to start sharpening my dribbling, shooting & rebounds again. Hopefully can pick up in time to compete. My captain said sibu-kia is very 'geng', just try our best.. hehe. And i need a pair of shoes.

Recently, i discussed some thought on the perspective toward life at facebook's status, below is weekly commentary by Soo-Inn i received today. Maybe, by understanding the destination will bring some perspectives toward the journey of life. happy reading ~~

Commentary: By Soo-Inn Tan

What happens after death? Nothing, according to some. Death is the
universal anticlimax to life. So we should "seize the day" or "let us eat and
drink, for tomorrow we die (1 Corinthians 15:32 NRSV)." Then there are
those who, like the ancient Greeks, saw death as "the release of the
immortal soul from its mortal bodily tomb . . ." (Linda L. Belleville, 2
Corinthians, Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1996, 130). For them
life after death was disembodied and that was the preferred state.

Modern popular culture however, ranging from the X-Files to Cantonese
ghost story movies from Hong Kong, often portrays life after death as an
existence less substantial than life before death and therefore portray the
spirits of the dead as jealous of those still alive. What is a Christian view
of what happens after death?

Last Friday (October 30th) Bernice and I had the privilege of spending
some time with Beverly, a dear friend. She was in pain and distress, in
what appeared to be the tail end of a courageous and faith-filled fight
against cancer. I wondered what passage of Scripture I should read to
strengthen her faith. Listening to her groans, 2 Corinthians 5: 1-10 came
to mind.

[For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a
building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly
dwelling— if indeed, when we have taken it off we will not be found
naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan under our burden,
because we wish not to be unclothed but to be further clothed, so that
what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for
this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at
home in the body we are away from the Lord— for we walk by faith, not by
sight. Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the
body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we
make it our aim to please him. For all of us must appear before the
judgement seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what
has been done in the body, whether good or evil. (NRSV)]

I wondered if the passage was too negative but in the end I read it. There
are times when we have to face life and death head on. Friday evening
was one of those times. Beverly passed on on Tuesday, November 3rd,
2009. I had the privilege of sharing the word on the first wake, held on the
evening of November 4th.

I spoke from the same 2 Corinthians passage. I shared that for Christians,
at death, we trade in our present perishable body for our eternal
resurrection body. Paul seems to hint at an intermediate stage between
the trading in of our old body and the time when we receive our new body
but how does one actually experience time in the life to come is
something that we cannot comprehend. What we can be absolutely sure of
is this: what awaits us is not some disembodied life but a resurrection
body.

Paul refers to our present body as a tent.

[Paul likens the process of physical decay and death to the dismantling of
a tent-dwelling . . . As something that can be easily swept away by storm,
wind, or some accident of nature, the comparison of the body to a tent is
a particularly apt one .... (Belleville, 2 Corinthians, 132)]

In contrast, Paul refers to our resurrection body as a heavenly house.

[God's intention for the believer is bodily existence, not disembodiment as
some would claim. More specifically, those who face physical hardship and
suffering . . . are assured that, come what may, a house of God's own
deigning . . . awaits them. This house is distinguished in three ways. It is
of heavenly versus earthly origin (in heaven). It is permanent (eternal) as
opposed to a temporary structure. And it is assembled by God rather than
by human hands (not built by human hands). (Belleville, 2 Corinthians,
133).]

Indeed, in a previous letter to the Corinthians, Paul had already taught
that our present bodies are unable to inherit all the blessings that God
wants to give us (1 Corinthians 15:50). Not only does the surrendering of
our present body result in our inheriting our resurrection body, this body
"trade in" has to take place for us to be able to receive all the treasures
that God has in store for His children.

One of those treasures is the privilege of relating to Christ face to face, in
perfect communion. Christians are folks with two homes. There is the
home of our present life. Then there is the home where we have face to
face communion with our Lord. We cannot be in our two homes at the
same time. I am now based in Singapore and I call both Singapore and
Kuala Lumpur home. But I cannot be in KL and Singapore at the same
time. I have to leave one to be in the other. We have to leave our present
life to go to our eternal home.

[. . . Paul speaks of ‘in the body' and ‘with the Lord' as two different
homes in diverse locations. He cannot be in both places at the same time.
And his preference is to be at home with the Lord (v.8). But for this to
happen he must be away from the hometown of his mortal body
(Belleville, 2 Corinthians, 139).]

If our loved ones had a tough time dying, we tend to remember them as
the emaciated bodies they had before their death, often with great
sadness. We must make a deliberate effort to remember them in "real
time", where they are now. We must remember that, for the Christian, life
after death is much more substantial than life this side of heaven. The
bible is clear on this point. Many of us are not.

When we try to console ourselves and others that our dearly departed
have gone on to "a better place" it often sounds wimpy and unsubstantial.
For Bev, death was no anticlimax to a life well lived. It was the beginning
of a glorious, eternal crescendo! This will also be true for all of us who are
followers of Jesus. And so whatever we go through in this life, we live our
lives with confidence, we live our lives "making it our aim to please Him"
because we are utterly clear as to what happens next.

Evangelical Church of Borneo (SIB) - Lest we forget

During the 1920s a group of Australian seminary students saw that the various church mission boards weren't winning many genuine converts among the Dayak tribes. Most fell away from God after a few years. In 1928 Hudson Southwell, Carey Tolley and Frank Davidson formed the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM). Governor Charles Brooke assigned the BEM a territory on the Limbang River near villages inhabited by the Bisaya, the Kelabit and the Iban, all Dayak subgroups. They won only a few converts between 1928 and 1936. Some of those converts took the gospel to the Lun Bawang, outside the territory assigned to the BEM. These local missionaries won few converts, but did create curiosity among the Lun Bawang people, thus planting the seeds for a future harvest.

The Lun Bawang were a Dayak people group who lived on both sides of the Sarawak/Kalimantan border. It was common for this people group to be drunk before dawn 100 days out of the year. Disease, crop failure and drunkenness were gradually reducing the Lun Bawang population, which is what Governor Charles Brooke desired. He wanted this people group to die off so their land could be given to other tribes.

But God had other plans. In 1936 Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) missionaries won converts among the Lun Bawangs in Kalimantan. The Lun Bawang people in Sarawak heard stories of changed lives among their countrymen across the border and remembered that the BEM preached a similar message in the nearby Limbang Valley. They invited BEM missionaries to preach among them.

Governor Brooke, blinded by his hatred of the Lun Bawangs, refused to extend the territory assigned to the BEM. For four years the BEM could do nothing except pray for that people group. During those years, local missionaries from across the border reached out to the Lun Bawang in Sarawak. In 1940 Brooke changed his mind and a team of BEM missionaries began working among this people group. By 1941 the Lun Bawang were completely evangelized.

Japan invaded Borneo in December of 1941, disrupting that work. Japan coveted the newly discovered oil fields in Dutch-controlled Kalimantan. All Christian missionaries were herded into prison camps. Between 1941-45 Dayak guerillas tied down thousands of Japanese troops with guerilla attacks. British agents encouraged the Dayaks to eat the Japanese soldiers they killed. The imprisoned missionaries could do nothing to stop this. By 1900 an earlier generation of missionaries had almost ended cannibalism on Borneo. In four years British spies undid that work. After the war missionaries began the process of ending cannibalism once again.

After Japan surrendered in 1945, missionaries continued their work in British controlled North Borneo and in Kalimantan, which became part of the new country of Indonesia. In the north, the Chinese and Dayak churches merged to form the Evangelical Church of Borneo (SIB) in 1959. More and more the SIB has taken over the job of taking the gospel to unreached people groups, but missionaries still serve among them, mainly in leadership development roles.

Yup, raya weekend is here!! Selamat hari raya to all, hope u all have a good time with friends and families. Have not been doing much since yesterday, just lazing around. Feeling a bit guilty for the time wasted :) but then it's good to just do nothing hehe. as they say, give me a break!! Have been pretty occuppied with school and tuition class lately. As for my limited experience, it's not easy to be a good teacher coz teaching is a process of educating and influencing student to be better person. It involve changing a person, and we all know how difficult for a person to change, it takes time and efforts, sweat and blood:) . Thus, it's a challenging job. It can give you high blood pressure, heart attack and maybe diabetes. Just like being a parents. hehe.

MACC & Corruption

The recent arrest of Ronnie Liu's assistance, Wong Chuan How by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) really amaze me. He was caught to assist investigation of suspected corruption in giving 230 project totalling about RM500,000.00. That's an average of RM2173.91 for one project. Sometime i really pity those DAP YB, want to pocket some money also cannot.

In the first place, MACC should take Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat to their office for questioning and solve it as soon as possible. Tiong claim to give Ong RM10,000,000.00 loans for PKFZ project, that's one project only. That not include some private jet fees. According to STAR, Kuala Dimensi deputy CEO Datuk Faizal Abdullah refuted the accusations that the company had possibly made unsubstantiated claims of between RM500mil and RM1bil. If compare to Ronnie Liu's project, 1000mil vs 0.5mil?

On 2-7/7/09, 14 of us went to Sabah , initially our plan is to conquer Mt Kinabalu but were unable to make it due to booking problem. So, we change our itinerary to Semporna instead where infamous Sipadan Island is located. We only hv one full day in Kota Kinabalu which we went for Water Rafting at Padas River, Ranau. Let's the photos do the talking..

Dear Malaysian Politicians,

Please stop the power chase, call for a truce and focus on the economy.

I do not claim to speak on behalf of all Malaysians, but I have strong convictions that many share my sentiments.

Our concern today is not who rules the country or heads the state governments but the looming bad economy.

Whether Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat leads, it is meaningless if Malaysians have no job to go to, no money to pay rent and no means to put food on the table.

I am a business owner, like other business owners and managers of corporations I have a responsibility to ensure people under my care and payroll continue to have jobs and a decent income to take home. We work hard and willing to go the extra mile to make sure our nation not only survive this crisis but come out stronger and wiser. We need your help.

Let me explain. I am in the business of Training, Development and Consultancy and have 20 people in my team.

Saedah is 42. She keeps the office clean and helps organise the training rooms. She has four children and her husband is unemployed. She was first hired on a part time basis, because she is very hard working and has a great attitude, we offered her a full time job to help provide a stable income for her family. Even then, when her third child started school this year, it was a struggle for her to buy new school uniforms and other necessities. Saedah lives on a ‘kais bulan, makan bulan’ basis, so, if she is jobless, her tap runs dry.

Samsuri is 27 years old. He lives with his sister and her family in a low cost government flat in Sunway. He does our despatch, helps with various clerical works and occasionally acts as a driver. During the first week at zubedy, we learned that he not only did not have money to buy new clothes and shoes for work, he had no money for lunch. Like Saedah, if he has no job, his tap runs dry too.

Alicia in Client Servicing turns 26 this year. She lives with her dad who is 71 years old and retired. Her mom passed away when she was little. Alicia is a hard-working team member, has a gentle caring outlook and fun to be with. (We like to poke fun at her as she blushes easily). Last May her dad went through a major operation, thank God he has recovered well. Alicia needs a job, both for herself and her dad.

Sudesh, 38, is one of our facilitators. When his father passed away last year, he moved back and lives with his mother in Seremban. He shuttles between Kuala Lumpur and Seremban daily, leaving home sometimes as early as 4 in the morning and returning late at night. He is no stranger to hard work and sacrifice, he knows what he needs to do to survive and to care for his mother, but he too needs a job.

Like fellow Malaysians, every one of us in zubedy needs employment, those that live from hand to mouth like Saedah and Samsuri and others like Alicia and Sudesh with family to care for. We Malaysians need the Malaysian economy to be strong. We need you, our leaders, to work hard and to work together to make our economy viable.

So this is my plea.

Pakatan Rakyat, please stop your attempts to take over the federal government and persuade BN’s lawmakers to join you. Stop all legal proceedings, no more 916 and let go, just let go. The nation can wait till the next general elections if they want change. By doing so, Malaysians will see your party as caring, unselfish and gracious and give you their support in the next elections.

Barisan Nasional, please stop any attempts to take over PR states and win over PR’s lawmakers. You have proven your point with Perak. The nation can wait for the next general elections if they want your party. Focus all your talent, energy and hard work in steering the country out of an economic downturn. By doing so, Malaysians will see your party as caring, unselfish and smart and give you their support in the next elections.

BN and PR! Call for a truce. Get together and compromise. Someone has to give in. Or has hate consumed your heart till it blinds you? You can do it. You have enough intelligent people between you. I am sure you can find solutions. Take the nation to heart. That is why you are in politics in the first place.

Focus on the people.

The Church is the most magnificent concept ever created. It has survived persistent abuse, horrifying persecution, and widespread neglect. Yet despite its faults (due to our sinfulness), it is still God’s chosen instrument of blessing and has been for 2,000 years.

The Church will last for eternity, and because it is God’s instrument for ministry here on Earth, it is truly the greatest force on the face of the Earth. That’s why I believe tackling the world’s biggest problems – the giants of spiritual lostness, egocentric leadership, poverty, disease, and ignorance – can only be done through the Church.

The Church has eight distinct advantages over the efforts of business and government:

1. The Church provides for the largest participation.
Most people have no idea how many Christians there are in the world: More than 2 billion people claim to be followers of Jesus Christ. That’s one third of the world’s population! The Church has about a billion more people than the entire nation of China.

For example, about 100 million people in the United States went to church this past weekend. That’s more people than will attend sporting events in the United States throughout this year. The Church is the largest force for good in the world. Nothing else even comes close.

2. The Church provides for the widest distribution.
The Church is everywhere in the world. There are villages that have little else, but they do have a church. You could visit millions of villages around the world that don’t have a school, a clinic, a hospital, a fire department, or a post office. They don’t have any businesses. But they do have a church. The Church is more widely spread – more widely distributed – than any business franchise in the world.

Consider this: The Red Cross noted that 90 percent of the meals they served to victims of Hurricane Katrina were actually cooked by Southern Baptist churches. Many churches were able to jump into action faster than the government agencies or the Red Cross. Why? The Church is literally everywhere, and Christians who could provide help to the Gulf Coast communicated with Christians in need of help so relief could be sent immediately.

3. The Church provides the longest continuation.
The Church has been around for 2,000 years. We’re not a fly-by-night operation. The Church has a track record that spans centuries: Malicious leaders have tried to destroy it, hostile groups have persecuted it, and skeptics have scoffed at it. Nevertheless, God’s Church is bigger now than ever before in history.

Why? Because it’s the Church that Jesus established, and it is indestructible. The Bible calls the Church an unshakable kingdom. In Matthew 16, Jesus says, “I will build my Church and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” All the powers of hell – in other words, no hurricane, no earthquake, no tsunami, no famine, no pandemic, no army will ever conquer the Church established by Jesus Christ.

4. The Church provides the fastest expansion.
Did you know that every day 60,000 new people come to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior? By the end of today, thousands of new churches will be started throughout the world, and that will happen tomorrow and the next day and the next.

In one country that is closed to traditional Christian missions, more than 60,000 house churches have been started in one province by the work of lay people, no different from the people who fill your church sanctuary every weekend.

If we’re going to tackle global giants like poverty, disease, or illiteracy, then we must be part of something that’s growing faster than the problem. The Church is doing just that!

5. The Church provides the highest motivation.
Why do any of us do what we do in ministry? It’s not to make money, not to make a name for ourselves and not for duty to our nation. We do it out of love. Jesus stated it as the Great Commandment: “Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.” We wouldn’t do the hard work required to tackle these global giants for money, for fame, or for anything else. It just wouldn’t be worth it; we’d quit before the end.

We’re motivated to keep at the hard work of ministry because we love God, and our love for God compels us to love other people. It is love that never gives up; it is love that keeps moving forward despite the appearance of impossible odds; and it is love that outlasts any problem.

6. The Church provides the strongest authorization.
God authorized the Church to take on global giants, such as spiritual lostness, egocentric leadership, poverty, disease, and ignorance. With God’s authorization, the outcome is guaranteed to be successful.

When you know that God has authorized you to do something, you don’t worry about failure because God doesn’t sponsor flops. If God says we’re going to do it, it’s going to happen. It is inevitable. In fact, the Bible teaches that God will give us his power to complete the task. This is God’s way - ordinary people empowered by his Spirit.

7. The Church provides the simplest administration.
The Church is organized in such a way that we can network faster and with less bureaucracy than most governmental agencies or even well-meaning charities. For instance, the organizational structure at Saddleback, which is based on the New Testament model, holds that every member is a minister. Each person in our church family is encouraged to use his or her own S.H.A.P.E. (Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, Experiences) to do what God has called him or her to do. There is no bureaucracy or hierarchy. There isn’t a single committee, and the process doesn’t require a long list of approvals.

The old wineskin of command and control won’t work well in the 21st century. The organization of the future is the “network.” And there’s no better worldwide network than the Church, where every member is a minister and empowered to do what God wants done.

Consider it this way – tens of millions of Christians in millions of small groups that are part of churches around the world can take on the global giants with no other authority than that given from Jesus Christ. In other words, we have God’s permission and we have God’s command to do it. There is no need to seek permission from anyone else.

8. The Church provides for God’s conclusion.
Since we believe the Bible is God’s Word, we already know the end of history. Jesus said in Matthew 24: “The good news about God’s Kingdom will be preached in all the world to every nation, and then the end will come.” It is inevitable and unavoidable.

When you consider these eight advantages, think about the exponential explosion of ministry when millions upon millions of small groups in millions upon millions of churches organize in such a way that each person can do their part in attacking the five global giants.

What do you think could happen if God’s people prayed against these global giants, prepared for action against these giants, and then moved through faith to tackle these giants?

We may look at these problems and think, “These are too big! How could we possibly solve them?”

But with God, nothing is impossible – and if we all work together as his Church, we’ll see these giants falls just as Goliath fell when faced with David’s obedience to God.

Pastor, it is a great privilege and an awesome responsibility to lead a local church. God wouldn’t have placed you where you are if he didn’t believe you could handle the task before you. You play a vital role in tackling these global giants. It is my privilege to co-labor with you.

The red season

Ya, it's the season of the year again, the red season. This is the first year i celebrate back home, i mean for the past 8 years, i was like just jet back from kl and spend a week here before jet back to kl. so, this year like just take it easy. anyway, as usual, the bai nien, manage to catch up with some old friends, relatives, classmates, church friends, though i think i miss up quite a few of you. If yes, then i wanna to wish u a very happy Chinese New Year here thru my blog.

also consume a lot of junk, like red cuttlefish, yellow cuttlefish, rou gan, malay cakes, biscuits, cola, oranges, 100plus, sandy, etc etc. dont know why this cny season feel really lazy, not semangat like last time. like just follow the things as its comes. also manage to catch a lots of movies this holiday season, thanks to ezra. yesterday, went cinema at sibu to watch 'underworld 3'. nice movies. and watched underworld 1&2 at ezra house. it's abt vampire and wirewolfs, last time not like to watch this kind of movie, guess it's peer pressure :)

tis holiday season didnt manage to take a lot of photos coz lazy to ask people to take, like have to ask everyone to pose and sometimes it take effort coz not everybody is blogger, only blogger understand the needs to take photos all the time haih..

the good thing about chinese is chinese have 2 new years, 1 ahmo new year, 1 chinese new year. so if you miss 1, u can still have new year. hehe. i think i didnt set any new year resolution during ahmo new year, so this time i am goin to put down.

It's Dec 2008!!! Time fly so fast. As u can see, i have very less post lately. This is due to my SE800i was kipnap 3-week ago in front of me!! so sad.. lost all the photos inside, no inspiration to blog without it. So, i hv adopted Nokia 1200 which has the best torchlight.. very good, but that's it, no camera, cant live without camera. Anyway, after some deliberation, research and reflection, i think i am going to get the elder brother of SE800i which is SE850i... hehe cant wait to get a hold on it...

There's a certain beauty in being a lone wolf. You can relax more often and have time to yourself. You have more time to do things you want to do, like take introspective walks, read books, write poetry, and other solitary endeavors. If you want to diversify your options, though, there are literally billions of potential friends in the world. What's more, many of these people want to make friends just as much as you do. So follow these steps to meet new people and form strong, lasting friendships.

Steps

Spend more time around people. If you want to make friends, you first need to put yourself out there somehow. Friends don't come knocking on your door while you sit at home watching TV. If the people you're already around (e.g. at work or school) aren't friend material for whatever reasons, it's not the end of the world.
- Join a club with people who have common interests. You don't necessarily have to have a lot of common interests with people in order to make friends with them. In fact, some of the most rewarding friendships are between two people who don't have much in common at all, but if you have something in common with people, it can make it a lot easier to start a conversation and plan activities together.
- Join a sports team. A common misconception about this is that you have to be really good at playing a particular sport in order to make friends with others on the team, but not all teams are so competitive. As long as you enjoy the sport and support your teammates, joining a local team with a laid-back attitude could be a great way to make new friends.
- Volunteer. Volunteering is a great way for people of all ages to meet others. By working together you build bonds with people, and you might meet others who have a passion for changing things the way you do—a common cause.
- Get online. In general, the Internet is a great place to make friends, but... it's also easy to invest a lot of time online with someone you think is a friend, and then you never meet them because of time and distance. Expect to have to sift through a lot of people online before you find the one or two great friends, the kind who will be there for you when you really need them. The Internet can also help you find other people around the world who share your interests even if you live in an isolated place. And even though the internet is a great place in general you still have to be cautious because not every person you meet online are who they say they are.Try Myspace or Facebook which are the most known sites for "new meetings" and check yourself out.With what kind of people can you communicate ? That's important.
Talk to people. You can join a club, go to school, or go to church, and you still won't make friends if you don't actually talk to people. By the same token, you don't have to be involved with an organization to talk to people, and any time you talk to someone, you have a chance at making a lasting friend. You can talk to anybody: the clerk at the video store, the person sitting next to you on the bus, or the person in front of you on the lunch line. Don't be picky. Most conversations will be a dead-end of sorts, in that you may never talk to that person again or you'll just remain acquaintances, but once in a while you'll actually make a friend.

Make eye contact and smile. If you have an unfriendly countenance, people are less likely to be receptive to your friendship. Look approachable.
Start a conversation. There are several ways to do this; a comment about your immediate environment (the weather is a classic: "At least it's not raining like last week!"), a request for help ("Can you help me carry a few boxes, if you have a minute?" or "Can you help me decide which one of these is a better gift for my mom?") or a compliment ("That's a nice car" or "I love your shoes"). Follow up immediately with a related question: Do you like warm weather? What kinds of gifts do you normally buy for your mom? Where did you get shoes like that?
Make small talk. Keep the conversation light and cheery. Even if you're complaining about something, make sure it's something you're both dissatisfied with, and emphasize the positive—how such a situation can be avoided in the future, or alternatives. Bounce back and forth for a little bit.
Introduce yourself towards the end of the conversation. It can be as simple as saying "Oh, by the way, my name is...". Once you introduce yourself, the other person will typically do the same. Remember his or her name.

Initiate a get-together. You can chat your heart out but it won't get you far if you don't open up the opportunity for another meeting. This is especially important if you meet someone who you aren't otherwise likely to meet again. Seize the day!

If you've discovered that the person you're talking to has a common interest, ask him or her more about it and, if appropriate, whether they get together with others (in a club, for example) to pursue this interest. If so, this is a perfect opportunity to ask about joining them. If you clearly express interest (when? where? can anyone come?) they'll probably invite you. If you have a club, band, church, etc. that you think they might enjoy, take the opportunity to give them your number or email address and invite them to join you.
Ask them out for lunch or coffee. That will give you a better opportunity to talk and get to know each other a little bit better. A good way to extend yourself is to say: "Hey, well I've got to go, but if you ever want to talk over lunch or coffee or anything like that, let me give you my number/e-mail address." This gives the person the opportunity to contact you; they may or may not give you their information, but that's fine. Maybe they don't have time for new friends—don't take it personally! Just offer your contact info to whoever seems to be a potentially good friend, and eventually somebody will get in touch.
Don't do anything to pressure someone into being friends with you. Never chide acquaintances for failing to invite you to a party, for example; don't call someone over and over or stop by uninvited (unless you have established that stopping by unannounced is o.k.); and refrain from overstaying your welcome anywhere. In general, take friendship slowly, and don't try to force intimacy to grow quickly; the move from acquaintance to friend can take a long time. It's understandable to want more of a good thing, but try to err on the side of less. If you are not sure about the pace of your new friendship, check in with your friend and ask directly. Too much too fast can be scary and not everybody is able to say "slow down" - instead, they will run the other way!

Be a good friend. Once you've started spending time with potential friends, remember to do your part (i.e. initiating activities, remembering birthdays, asking how the other person is feeling) or else the friendship will become unbalanced and resentment is likely to arise.

Be reliable. If you and your friend agree to meet somewhere, don't be late, and do not stand them up. If you're not going to make it on time or make it at all, call them as soon as you realize it. Apologize and ask to reschedule. Don't make them wait for you; it's rude, and not a good way to launch a friendship. When you say you'll do something, do it. Be someone that people know that they can count on.
Be a good listener. Many people think that in order to be seen as "friend material" they have to appear very interesting. Far more important than this, however, is the ability to show that you're interested in others. Listen carefully to what people say, remember important details about them (their names, their likes and dislikes), ask questions about their interests, and just take the time to learn more about them. You don't want to be the guy or girl that always has a better story than anyone else or that changes the subject abruptly instead of continuing the flow of conversation. These people appear too wrapped up in themselves to be good friends.
Be trustworthy. One of the best things about having a friend is that you have someone to whom you can talk about anything, even secrets that you hide from the rest of the world. The key to being a good confidante is the ability to keep secrets, so it's no secret that you shouldn't tell other people things that were told to you in confidence. Before people even feel comfortable opening up to you, however, you need to build trust. Be honest about yourself and your beliefs, and don't gossip about others or spread rumors.
Be there. You've probably heard of fair-weather friends. They're the ones who are happy to be around you when things are going well, but are nowhere to be found when you really need them. Part of being a friend is being prepared to make sacrifices of your time and energy in order to help out your friends. If a friend needs help with an unpleasant chore, or if he or she just needs a shoulder to cry on, be there.

Choose your friends wisely. As you befriend more people, you might find that some are easier to get along with than others. While you should always give people the benefit of the doubt, sometimes you realize that certain friendships are unhealthy, such as if the person is obsessively needy towards you, or constantly critical, or introducing dangers or threats into your life. If this is the case, ease your way out of the friendship as gracefully as possible. Preoccupy yourself with other things, such as a new volunteer opportunity, so that you can honestly say that you don't have enough time in your schedule to spend time with them (but don't substitute that time for other friends; they may notice and become jealous, and drama will ensue). Cherish those friends you make who are a positive influence in your life, and do your best to be a positive influence in theirs.

Tips

You don't have to be a superstar to be fun. You don't even have to do cartwheels. You do need to be positive and friendly, however, so that people feel good when they're around you. From the very first conversation you have with someone, you should use body language to convey that you are affable, non-threatening, and approachable. Smile frequently, laugh often, and make eye contact. In your words, be confident, but don't be cocky, condescending, or mean-spirited.
If you make friends with as many people as possible and maintain those friendships, you'll be able to handle all kinds of people with different personalities.

Warnings!

Don't try to change yourself in order to fit in to make new friends. A good friend sometimes does things he or she doesn't want to do, such as helping a friend move or going to see a band that you don't really like, but you should never feel pressured to do something you think is wrong. Stay true to your convictions and beliefs, and if this causes you to lose some friends, you're better off without them. You'll also find that your integrity may help you win a lot of other friends, and if you just be yourself you'll make friends who like you for who you are.
Never leave old friends because you like someone else more. This is a big, bad mistake. It's great to have different groups of friends, but if you abandon one group for another, you may soon find yourself without any friends at all.
Be careful about getting together with people that you meet online. They might not be who they say they are.
Don't try to buy friends by giving people gifts or money. While it's nice to give a friend a gift sometimes, if you go overboard, it's creepy. A person who will "be your friend" because you buy him or her things probably just likes the things you gave them, not you.

I have friends who think that the Democratic Party is a tool of the devil. They
are terribly disturbed that Barrack Obama has been elected and see him as a
strong candidate for the Antichrist. Many others see him in Messianic terms.
They are overjoyed that he has prevailed and see him as ushering in a bright
new era for the United States. My word to both groups --- get real. Obama is
neither Christ nor Antichrist.

This is a historic moment in American politics and because in so many ways
what happens in America affects the rest of us, it is also a historic moment
for the world. The hunger for change was so overwhelming that it carried a
black first term senator with a name like Barrack Hussein Obama into the
White House. Not quite walking on water but close. With minimal hyperbole,
Thomas Friedman calls the election of Barrack Obama as the moment the
American Civil war finally concluded. Those of us in Malaysia can only look on
with envy and wonder when we will ever move beyond the politics of race.

And Obama has made all the right promises. His rhetoric of hope has
galvanised a nation. If he can deliver on only a fraction of the things he
promised, America and the world will be a better place. I am hopeful but not
holding my breath. I have learned long ago, from life, and from the
Scriptures, that all human leaders have clay feet and are destined to
disappoint us.

1 and 2 Kings contain a record of the various kings that ruled Judah and
Israel. Some were better than others. None of them could come close to the
reign of King David. He was the benchmark of human leadership and he was
marked by spectacular failures. God can use human leaders to bring about
substantial change for good. I think of the Lincolns and the Churchills and
the Sun Yat-Suns and the enormous good they did in their life times. It is
very possible that Obama will be used by God to bring his nation to another
level in her development. But I will not be dismayed if he doesn't. I am not
cynical, just realistic. All human leaders are flawed.

Malaysians will remember the hopes that came with the election results of
March 8th 2008. There was so much hope that Anwar would quickly usher in
a new era in Malaysian politics. But he has not delivered on a number of key
promises. And there are signs that some components of the opposition
coalition are reverting to old ways of thinking. We need to be realistic as to
what we can expect from human leaders.

I am glad March 8th happened. In many ways Malaysia has changed for the
better. March 8 slowed down the march of racism and corruption that had
crippled the nation for so long. But I am not surprised that Anwar and the
coalition he leads could not deliver on all they had promised. Sooner or later
we all learn that we must not overestimate our capacity to influence history.
(Remember the promises that Abdullah Badawi made when he was running
for election?)

So those who think that Barrack Obama is the Antichrist shouldn't be too
worried. There is just so much he can do. And those who think that Obama is
the Messiah should lower their expectations a notch or two or ten. He was
not born in a manger. (And neither was he born on Krypton and sent to save
planet earth.)

All leaders running for public office must give some indication to how they
can deliver. Obama has come across as honest and realistic while giving his
vision of change. The level of euphoria greeting his election however, tells
me that deep in the human heart, there is hunger for a Messiah. In our
darkest moments we know we cannot save ourselves. But Christians should
never forget that our ultimate salvation will not come form politics.

That doesn't mean that Christians should withdraw from the political process.
As Jordan Hylden reminds us in a recent article:

[... Christians are called to act like Christians in the many places in the world
that are not the church --- in our jobs, schools, communities, and
governments. Involvement in secular institutions is no substitute for the
gospel, of course. But it would be a small gospel indeed that could have no
effect on the way they are run. As William Wilberforce showed, such
involvement can make a real difference in the word and can itself be a
witness to the gospel. ( "Aliens and Citizens," Christianity Today, November,
2008, 37).

I am delighted that many of my friends are actively involved in the political
process and see their involvement as an expression of their discipleship. I
am just concerned that we do not get so carried away with the euphoria of
the hour that we begin to equate our battles in the political sphere as the
only or the main way to bring about permanent change in society --- and get
unduly elated or unduly worried by the political fortunes of our chosen
candidates/parties.

Our ultimate hope is still in a God who is on His throne, a God who decides
which ruler rises and which ruler falls. While we work for kingdom values in
all spheres of life our ultimate hope is in the King Himself, a Messiah who
came and is coming again.

For the Mighty One is holy,
and he has done great things for me.
He shows mercy from generation to generation
to all who fear him.
His mighty arm has done tremendous things!
He has scattered the proud and haughty ones.
He has brought down princes from their thrones
and exalted the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away with empty hands

Have you ever felt that if only you were in a more prestigious position or had more money, then you could accomplish really significant things for the Lord?

Let's examine two men who lived in Rome and were at different ends of the economic spectrum. Before gladiator contests in the coliseum, everyone would stand, waiting silently for Ceasar. The contests could not begin until he arrived. When Caesar arrived, he was greeted with thunderous shouts of "Hail Caesar!" He had more power, prestige and wealth than anyone else living at that time. He was worshipped as though he were a god.

Elsewhere in Rome was another man in vastly different circumstances. He was in prison, chained to guards. He invested his time praying and writing to his friends. He invested his time praying and writing to his friends. His name was Paul.

One man lived in an opulent palace. The other lived in a dingy cell. One had almost unlimited wealth. The other had almost nothing. One was the center of attention. The other had almost nothing. The other was vitually ignored. Almost 2.000 years later, people around the world recognize which of these two men made the eternally important contribution. They name their children after the prisoner and their salads after the emperor.

Being used by Christ in a significant way has nothing to do with a high position or great riches. It has everything to do with a willingness to allow Christ to become your Lord.

1) Nam Leong

This is the latest and biggest supermarket in Sarikei to date. Opening ceremony was on 25/10/08. The size is 8 units 3-storey shoplots. Due to grand opening ceremony and promotion, the atmosphere these 2 days is like 'mid-valley on weekend', seriously. Like chinese new year:).

(2) Bridge to Bintangor

After 10 years of anticipation, finally the bridge is done and is open to public today. Opening ceremony by YB Ding. We use ferry all this while to Bintangor or Sibu with rm1 fee. Now with the bridge, shorten the trip by 10 minutes at least and of course rm1 saving.

Good to see some developments.

The easy access and anonymity of the Internet have turned it into a multibillion-dollar-a-year “business.” But it leaves a trail of broken families, ineffective Christian leaders, and men who have lost the respect of their loved ones.

The apostle John was known for his great love for Christ and His church. In 1 John 2:12-17, he warned fathers and young men against these three lusts:

The lust of the flesh—the insatiable appetite to indulge in pleasures that inflame the flesh but never satisfy.
The lust of the eyes—wandering eyes that continually want more riches and possessions but always remain covetous.
The pride of life—the vain mind that thirsts for man’s applause. But the glory evaporates quickly.

Pornography damages users and victims alike. It feeds lustful desires in ways that can never satisfy. True satisfaction is found only when we give our affections to eternal things—to a right relationship with our heavenly Father and with those He has created in His image.

“The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17).

The Shaveh Valley and G-d's Economy

"After his return from slaughtering K'dorla'omer and the kings with him, the king of S'dom went out to meet him in the Shaveh Valley, also known as the King's Valley. Malki-Tzedek king of Shalem brought out bread and wine. He was cohen of El 'Elyon [God Most High], so he blessed him with these words: "Blessed be Avram by El 'Elyon, maker of heaven of earth. and blessed be El 'Elyon, who handed your enemies over to you." Avram gave him a tenth of everything."

While I was walking downtown in my city today I thought about sharing something I have been thinking about. Then I went to write this devo and this scripture came to mind. I have been thinking about my city and I looked up the GDP for our business district. (Gross Domestic Product) IF I understand correctly, the GDP for our city is the total revenue that all of the businesses together make on an annual basis. As I thought about what I have heard referred to as “G-d’s economy” (Os Hillman is the first person I heard use that phrase) I thought about how it could dramatically change things.

G-d’s economy is about the marketplace knowing how to use their financial blessings to change the world. In USAmerican thinking, it seems that everyone looks to the government to fix things. I believe G-d says that it is the financial blessings that He pours out on individuals are to “fix things” and not the government. The government is to rule and make laws or follow G-d’s laws, but not to be in charge of everything. So as I processed this information, I thought about how different things would be if we did it HIS way and not our current way. As I put all these thoughts together, I thought about how our local GDP is over 93 BILLION dollars each year. If our conglomerate of businesses all tithed back to the local city to make this a better place, then it would mean 9.3 BILLION each year poured back into the local economy.

I am not referring to what they currently do. Most businesses try to do “good things” to help our city, but what if they did G-d things instead of good things? What if they followed the same process of Avram and poured money back into helping the homeless and the “poor” and the widows and the orphans? Not just the offerings they currently give, but a true 10% tithe? What would this do to change our economy? One example is a project that has been started that will build a special area on the riverfront that is going to cost the developers 600 million when all is complete. What if they tithed 60 million to the city to use for “ministry” to the above groups of people I mentioned? That would go a long way to helping, but if everyone put their tithe in and gave the full 9.3 billion how much difference would that make? The answer is “a lot of difference.”

Would that be awesome to see 9.3 billion per year poured out to help people in need? I absolutely love the ABC Show called “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition.” They go around the country and they build new homes for people in dire need. I think they are doing G-d’s work – even if they do not know it. Sure they make a profit from doing it, but who cares if they are doing good things for people? I do not care where their motivation comes from, I believe they are doing G-d’s work and I weep every time I watch the show and see how it changes lives. So what if more people did what they do? How many more lives could we see transformed? And then imagine if in that process, people who do it in His Name did a 100 times more than that one network could do. Imagine how many transformed lives could we see?

Please just think about it. And if it makes sense to you, pray about it. Pray that more people could catch the vision of doing things according to G-d’s economy. I believe that if more and more did this then G-d would pour out more blessings than we can imagine. If you do not believe me, just read through King Shlomo’s life. (Solomon) I believe this is what he did. I believe he tried to out-give G-d and G-d just kept pouring more and more out for him to use. It is something to think about. Notice what the result was here of Avram’s actions – G-d was blessed by it. What better result could we ask for?

Book: The Jesus I Never Knew

It have been long time since i manage to finnish reading a book. And lately manage to catch up some time reading this book which i have been wanting to read for long long time. Wrote by Philip Yancey whose other works include 'Disappointment with God', 'What's so Amazing about Grace', 'Rumour of Another World', etc. I would say he is one of the best writer.

In this book, he potrayed eloquently, clearly and vividly the person of Jesus from the scripture and historically who he really is compare to general perception. I would say it's very readable, sweetly written and thought provoking. Very good read for all people.

I think i will leave some excerp from the book:

My career as a journalist has afforded me opportunities to interview "stars", including NFL football greats, movie actors, music performers, best-selling authors, politicians, an TV personalities. These are the people who dominate the media. We fawn over them, poring over the minute of their lives: the clothes they wear, the food they eat, the aerobic routines they follow, the people they love, the toothpaste they use. Yet I must tell you that, in my limited experience, I have found Paul Johnson's principle to hold true: our "idols" are as miserable a group of people as I have ever met. Most have troubled or broken marriages. Nearly all are incurably dependant on pychotherapy. In a heavy irony, these larger-than-life heroes seem tormented by self-doubt.

I have also spend time with people I call "servants". Doctors and nurses who work among the ultimate outcasts, leprosy patients in rural India. A Princeton graduate who runs a hotel for the homeless in Chicago. Health workers who have left high-paying jobs to serve in a backwater town of Mississippi. Relief workers in Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and other repositories of human suffering. The Ph.D.s I met in Arizona, who are now scattered throughtout jungles of South America translating the Bible into obscure languages.

I was prepared to honor and admire these servants, to hold them up as inspiring examples. I was not prepared to envy them. Yet as I now reflect on the two groups side by side, stars and servants, the servants clearly emerge as the favored ones, the graced ones. Without question, I woulf rather spend time among the servants than among the stars: they possess qualities of depth and richness and even joy that I have not found elsewhere. Servants work for low pay, long hours, and no applause, "wasting" their talents and skills among the poor and uneducated. Somehow, though, in the process of losing their lives they find them.

Commentary: Money makes a great pitch.

"Psssst. Give an altar call now and half the church will come forward." I
was speaking at a church camp recently when the pastor of the church
whispered the above suggestion. No, I am not that anointed a speaker. As
part of my talk, I was personalising the lure of money. I was speaking as
though money was speaking. I said things like:

"Trust in me. I will take care of you. I will give you the desires of your
heart. I can't guarantee that you won't fall sick but if you do I can get you
the best medical care in the world. Travel? Nice things? No problem.
Worship me and you will have more happiness in your life than you can
handle. You will be popular. People will look up to you. You can continue to
have religion. You can go to church. But trust in God? Hey, have you seen
Him recently? But hold up a dollar note. Touch it. Smell it. Now that's real!
That's security. So, come, worship me."

In response to my "money as god pitch," the pastor suggested I give an
altar call. He was speaking in jest (he's an old friend) but we both
understood the power of mammon. So did Jesus.

When Jesus wanted to make the point that you can't worship both the true
God and a false god simultaneously, He chose mammon/money to
represent the false god, and not Baal, Jupiter, Mithra, or even Caesar
(Matthew 6:24). It appears that through the ages, money is the perennial
favourite for god pretender (cr. Colossians 3:5b).

But once in awhile mammon's true colours are revealed. Once in awhile,
the fact that money is no god at all becomes ridiculously obvious. The
present global financial crisis is one such time. Here is one summary of the
cause of the present financial crisis.

["Bank and financial institutions throughout the western world acted as if
the economic cycle was a thing of the past. Instead of understanding that
the longer the debt-fueled boom lasted and the greater the debt burden
became, the greater would be the carnage when the inevitable day of
reckoning arrived, they acted as if the longer the good times lasted the
more they could be regarded as a permanent fixture. The basic error, born
of folly, ignorance and greed, is the biggest cause of the mess we are now
in." (Lord Nigel Lawson, "Back to Reality," TIME Asia, October 13, 2008,
23)]

I am no economist but I would venture to suggest that the folly and
ignorance that Lord Lawson mentions, were in fact fuelled by greed. The
scripture is very aware of the power of greed to warp our discernment (1
Timothy 6:9-10).

[But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by
many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and
destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some
people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced
themselves with many sorrows. (NLT)]

As many have pointed out, it is not money per se that is evil. The bible
acknowledges the place of money in life. The problem comes when we love
money, when we make it the main foundation for our lives, when we deify
it.

This is no time for the church to be in any "I told you so" stance. Instead
the church is called to reach out to the broken. Financial difficulties often
reveal other areas of brokenness already present in the lives of people.
Already we hear of marriages at risk and the rise of suicides. Mammon is
no god at all. It cannot give life.

Besides, the church also have many who have tried to serve both God and
mammon --- and are reaping what they sowed. And there are many who
are innocent victims of the present downturn. Now is a time for
compassion, a time to try to rescue the victims of the new hard times. And
to be on the lookout for prodigals who are headed home.

When I played the role of money in my talk in the church camp, I was
preaching on the parable of the compassionate father from Luke 15:11-32.
The younger boy gambled everything on mammon and went off to a far
country. There he discovered, as we all do sooner or later, that money is
no infallible god. Indeed it is no god at all.

The pain of the financial downturn of his day caused the prodigal to go
home. There will be many prodigals coming home these days as well. For
those who didn't sell out to money (yeah, there may be a few), the elder
brother shows us what we should not be doing. Instead we should follow
the example of the compassionate father, and welcome home the broken
hearted with open arms and with love.

But it is a time for lessons. It would have been better if we had not left for
the far country to begin with. May the present financial turmoil teach us,
again, that money is no god. We have such short memories. And money
knows how to make a great pitch.

TO TITHE OR NOT TO TITHE: THAT IS THE QUESTION

As you're developing a budget with your family, I encourage you to make it your number one priority to give to the Lord first. A good steward understands that God is the grantor of all. When we give first, we are telling God we recognize He alone is our provider. When we do that, everything else falls into place.

The same is true with our priorities. If we get the first one wrong, all the others are going to be out of place. But if we get this first priority right, each step thereafter is much easier. At the top of our list should be our planned giving to the church. God makes it clear he is to receive the firstfruits of our income, not the leftovers: "Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops" (Proverbs 3:9, emphasis added).

How much of our income is to be given to God as the firstfruits? My personal conviction is that I should give the first 10 percent of my income to my local church. Whatever your conviction, decide to give God what you consider to be the "firstfruits" of your income, to show God you understand it's not your money you're managing, but his. When you give the firstfruits, you are showing considerable faith. I don't know much about farming, but I have to think that giving the firstfruits without knowing what else will be harvested requires significant faith.

We're tempted to think that if we give God 10 percent, then we're giving him His part. After that, once we pay our bills, we're free to do whatever we wish with the remainder. But God is not concerned with only the first 10 percent. Just as we can't say, "I went to church on Sunday and I've done my part; now I may live as I wish," neither can we claim the right to do what we want with the remaining 90 percent of our income. God owns all of it and cares how we manage it all.

God owns it all and gives to us as He pleases. No matter how much we like to think we earned it, we don't have anything that God didn't give us. The first job Adam and Eve were given - even before they fell into sin - was management. They were put in charge of the Garden of Eden. They were to tend it, but they did not own it. In the same way, we are only tending what is in our possession. Nothing we have will be ours for eternity. Whatever we have came from God and will return to God.

In the meantime we are to be stewards - managers or trustees - of God's resources, and God takes a steward's task seriously. The Bible has more than two thousand verses on money and possessions, exhorting us to be wise stewards of God's resources. Some day he will demand an accounting of that which he has entrusted to us. The Bible says, "It is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful" (1 Corinthians 4:2). God has entrusted us with quite a lot of his resources. If you average an annual income of twenty-five thousand dollars over a forty-year period, you will manage more than a million dollars in your lifetime!

Over the last several years I've been consistently asked the following two questions: "Should I tithe if my spouse is against it?" and "Should I tithe even if I can't pay my bills?" To the first one I say, no. Tithing should not cause a wedge in your marriage relationship. Talk it over with your spouse and come to an agreement. See if you can compromise. Give an agreed upon gift each week for a year, and journal all of God's blessings during that time. When the year is up, look at the journal and see if you can increase your giving the next year.

As for whether or not you should tithe if you cannot pay your bills, if you can't afford the necessities of food, clothing, and shelter, I would say no. But make it your goal to tithe as soon as possible. Not being able to pay your bills should be only a short-term excuse for the new Christian or for someone who has just come to understand his need to give at this level. Get out of debt as soon as possible. In the meantime, immediately begin giving whatever you can to God every week - even if it seems minuscule - to show your obedience and your intention. I believe you will begin to see the blessings of God.

In closing, let me encourage those of you who are not tithing on a regular basis. Determine that within three years you will be a "tither." Keep a journal of how God blesses you once you begin giving more, so that your faith will be reinforced. Then examine your budget and expenses each month to determine what you can do without so you can tithe. If someone claims he cannot tithe, but he has a cellular phone, a plasma TV, cable television, a boat, or a sizable savings account, he needs to reevaluate his priorities. Jesus said that where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).

Ever feel like throwing in the towel?

Most folks feel that way at times. Maybe you've worked, fretted, and given yourself to a relationship, a job, or a cause that doesn't go your way. You are caught between conflicting desires; you feel like giving up on the good things, the right things, even as you hold onto the wrong things. Feeling like giving up is a universal human experience, even for Christians! In Romans 7:21, the apostle Paul shares his own experience as he struggles to do good even as evil lurks close at hand. Where there is belief, there is doubt. Where there is trust, there is distrust. Where there is obedience, there is disobedience.

You can always give up. John 6 finds Jesus telling his disciples the truth about God. In verse 66, some "walked no more with him." They gave up. They threw in the towel. They quit on Jesus. I can't help but imagine all kinds of things as Jesus turns to the Twelve, his core group, and asks, "Will you also go away?" And then Simon Peter gives an answer that rings true for all followers of Jesus. He replies, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." Still, it's just so tempting to give up, isn't it? We really feel like giving up on God ... on other people, and even on ourselves — giving up the song in our soul, our hopes and dreams, both big and small.

Let me tell you a story. I have a lifelong fascination and deep abiding interest in ancient Native American culture. One of my dreams was to learn flint-knapping, the art of making tools and weapons from flint, chert, or obsidian. I especially wanted to make arrowheads. To make an arrowhead you need a hammer stone, the right piece of flint, and a lot of patience. As I kid, I tried to make arrowheads. After trying, it seemed impossible, so I gave up.

Years later, one hot afternoon near a summer camp, I stumbled onto a pile of river rocks near Lake Whitney, Texas. Something caught my eye. There, in the middle of the pile was a huge chunk of flint. My old arrowhead dreams came back in an instant. Dreams can do that sometimes. Picking an oval rock to use as a hammer stone, I tried to knock off a flake just the right size for an arrowhead. No such luck. I tried again. Nothing. The longer it took, the madder I got, the harder I hit. Twenty minutes later, my arm ached, my eyes were blinded by sweat, and my thumb was bloody from a misplaced blow. If my tribe expected me to make an arrowhead and bring home dinner, they were just out of luck. I was about to give up for good when something indescribable happened. The flint gave a short, sharp sound as a thin wafer, the size of a dinner plate, flew off the chunk and landed softly in the grass about twenty feet away. I stumbled over, picked it up and with deep primitive joy began making the first of many arrowheads, spearheads, and stone axes. Now it's easy, now it's fun. Now there's nothin' to it.

Don't give up!

Don't give up on the God who seems so distant. He has not given up on you.

Don't give up on people even though you've had some bad experiences.

Don't give up on the song in your soul just because the chaos of your life or the hurt in your heart temporarily drowns out its melody.

Jesus has, and IS, the Word of Life.

Your arrowhead awaits ... just keep striking the stone ... and don't give up.

You’ve probably read these kinds of articles before and you’ve probably been put off launching that super business idea that you’ve been keeping at the back of your mind for years, or you find yourself doubting your abilities because you read somewhere that you NEED to be good with figures to be able to run a business.

The truth is that NOT every entrepreneur has ALL the necessary skills when they first start out. I’ve quoted four of the following characteristics because I believe that when applied on their own or in combination, these traits provide would-be entrepreneurs with the necessary motivation and drive to LEARN whatever skills they need to be learn.

You are self-motivated. Let’s face it: Most of us would rather not have someone else telling us what to do. That’s one of the appeals of becoming self-employed. But as a small business owner, you won’t have a boss to tell you when to get to work. If that’s a problem, keep your day job.

This is the crucial trait every entrepreneur must have. Without it, you will end up sitting on the couch watching soaps when you should be out sniffing out leads or on the web chatting with an online pal when you are supposed to be doing research.

You don’t mind making mistakes. You will make them; the trick is to learn from them and move on. Not everyone finds that easy to do.

No, you don’t have to LIKE making mistakes. Although seriously, after so many years of running my own business, I find that my mindset has changed from when I was a salaried employee. These days when I screw up, I say to myself “Ouch. That hurt.” then “… now what should I do so that I don’t fall flat on my face like that again…”.

Did I have this trait when I first started? NO. It was learnt - the hard way. By making mistakes.

You like to work. Contrary to myth, you don’t need to be a workaholic to start a successful business. Many entrepreneurs find that it makes more sense to establish a reasonable working pace — one that lets them strike a balance between work and their personal lives. That said, don’t start a business unless you enjoy work. There’s going to be plenty of it.

I’d rather be at my computer writing an article or fiddling with a piece of PHP code for one of my blogs than watching movie reruns. I’m not a square. I get a healthy dose of recreation everyday with my kids, but I love to work on my websites. I know that every post or piece of code I write ultimately adds to the overall value of my online business. Other than the sense of creative satisfaction it gives me, I also enjoy the money it brings in for my family and for our future.

You don’t quit easily. You’ll encounter obstacles that might stymie some individuals. You’ll have more success if you are the type of person who relishes such challenges. A dash of optimism helps; it will help you handle the uncertainty that is part of every venture.

This is a bit of a toughie sometimes. Tough times will always poke its nose into your business every now and then. Change is about the only constant that you can count on these day. And when it happens, do I feel like jumping onto a new horse and riding off into a brand new sunset searching for a new challenge? All the time. After running a business for some time, it CAN get to feel like a job. The trick is to always keep your sights on the BIG picture and try not to get discouraged by the little problems.

Some thought on Love

Have u fall in love? or fall out of love? I think everyone hv their own defination of what is the meaning of love. and there are different kind, mother's love, boyfriend's love, friend's love and so on. or love of chocholate? It's so broad and sometime is it difficult to define what actually it's. Is it a feeling of estacy because someone care for you so much? or it is what make people to do something extraordinary like buy flower, talk for hours on phone, and have sleepless night?

ok, so much on introduction. let me say what i think love is. i think love is a choice, decision & commitment toward someone with the best interest irrespective of feeling & circumstance. In this way, it's applicable of mother love, or teacher love, or friend love, husband & wife love. example, teacher scold student, not a nice action, but for the interest of the student, he discipline him, i think this is love. instead if he being nice guy to the student and they not improve in study, the teacher actually is not loving his students though he is nice to them.

so, i dont believe in 'love at first sight'. how to commit to someone when u meet her 1st time. I think it is appropriately 'infatuation at first sight'. i think infatuation is physical attraction to the person of opposite gender. it is possible to be attracted to another person at first sight, because it is physical. that why people fall in love to beautiful girl at 1st sight, not 'not so beautiful girl'. the attraction is real and is it strong feeling. now, i think it's part of us and the process bonding - u are infatuated, u decide to know the person, u date the person, u knoe the person better, u decide to marry the person, u hv baby with the person. how it is possible without infatuation in the first place? so, i would say it is completely normal and ok with infatuation.

another thought, i believe that under the right circumstance and right timing, it's highly possible for a person to be infatuate with any another person. ex: pub/disco where ppl wear sexy clothe, dance, dim light, love songs, +alcohol influence: condusive environment. Since, it's physical attraction, it's completely possible to hv intimate relationship even if they barely know one another.

now, i am not saying infatuation is bad, if not how people get together if they not attrated to one another? But the problem is when we equate infatuation = love. it is not. the two is exclusive. it may happen at the same time, but it is different thing altogether. the problem with infatuation is it's not permenant, it flutuate with times, sometime it diminish over time. and another problem is it's possible to be infatuate with more than one person. tat's why the saying 'how come i love 2 people in one time', 'last time i love her, now i no more love', the problem with the statement is we equated love=infatuation.

so, i realise tat people fall in and out of infatuation, not love. tat why intimate acts and its related matter is best happen in marriage because it is a commitment. especially, when the infatuation or feeling reside and reality set in: character conflics, weaknesses, problem, daily chores etc. normally, infatuation will make way, after a period of time, and love have to take over for the relationship to work.

i thinks it's possible for person that is not compatible to be attrated to one another. so, it's important to check whether we hv the capasity to love the person more than the barrier /differences between the two person.

lately hv been thinking about the issue of contentment. there is a saying that 'man will never be contented', which is quite true, when i was small i want a bike, when i got it, i want mountain bike, when i go uni i get a kapchai, then upgrade to modenas, then i get a proton, then perodua, now i wan toyata, then bmw, then lexus, then porche, then ferrari, then... but how many people can drive ferrari. even if i got ferrari, i wan a helicopter, then personal jet flight.... so on...
last time, if i got rm1000/month, i consider myself more than sufficient and pretty rich, when i work i got rm1600, but somehow not enuf, a bit more will be good, then rm2000, still not enuf, then rm2300, then rm2500, then rm2800... still lack a bit more... maybe rm5000/mth will be enuf? or mayb 1st million by 30 then more million, then billion, to come...
of coz i didnt denied the need of which is necessity like house, transport, food and so on. the question is, is the contentment come from material achievement, if i hv a bungalow, with a big mercs, and ceo of a mnc company, and a beautiful family, then i will be happy. if yes, what is the limit or there are other factors. why i not contented with rm2000 while there are people that can survive with rm1000?
another question is, is there any contented person? one who say 'it's enough'? and dont hv other need. maybe my error here is comparing level of contentment with material possession which probably is not actual determinant. probably there are contented rich, and there are contented poor v.v. my pastor today speak something profound, he said 'i am contented, though not much material, but i hv peace and contentment inside of me'... sometimes it's not the words, but the timing of the words that make it so meaningful. i always admire those who give up their life for their cause, like pastor, or mayb priest, monk, nun, missionary.. it take courage and faith to do that..

Watch it 2 weeks ago while in Kuching. Wall-e is abt a recylicling robot who found himself abandon and alone on planet earth that hv been left behind by human race because of the environmental damage and extintion of plants. the story goes from here and how wall.e found the love of his life and in the process save humankind.

(2) Money Not Enough 2

Produce by Jack Neo who also made 'I not stupid 1&2', 'Ah Long Pte Ltd' etc . i always like jack neo production and glad that yesterday manage to watch his latest movie while at sibu after sending amy to airport. it's so funny cos it's so true. sure cry coz some scene very touching. some people dont like it but i rate it 5-stars.

Lately life hv been crazy especially since start temporary teaching job at bintagor a week ago. I tell u, not easy to become teacher. Hope u had a good weekend, God's bless!

Have been back hometown for 3 months now. Yeah, i am fine here, thanks for concerns. Feel bad for not updating the blog for such a long long time. So, how is everybody?? Quite a lot of things happen here since i back. Anyway, what hv i been doing this pass 3 months.. i hv took almost a month break after moving everything back home, mostly went in and out of hospital coz grandma foot injured, and just being jobless... i tell u it's terrible... then spend another month setting up a tuition center with a friend, michael which hv been running for a month now...

for the tuition center, now it's running quite ok, hopefully can hv steady growth. For the sarikeian, pls support us ok. Quit intresting also seeing all kind of student character, previous day a primary 3 student vomit in class, then hv to send her back. Then the other day, a mother come complaining coz we allow her form 4 daugther go out during class. haih... anyway doing own business not easy, hv to hv strong self-motivation and initiative... which i dont think is natural of me.. Anyhow, hope the students will improve when tuition at the center.

I think i hv pretty much getting use to life here, hv start play basketball again these few days, at least got some exercise. now a bit free-er coz hv a clerk in the office. the admin stuff is killing me. life here is quit ok, just a bit boring sometime... i think, not been watching any movie lately coz here no cinema, so just watch astro discovery channel & history channel. church wise, hv join back my home-church SIB BS, the youth cell group. hopefully can serve more in this area in time to come.

recently the hot news is our health minister chuasoilek adultery scandal. ironicly, before this he has given advice to other men to be faithful to ones wife as to avoid sexually-transmited diseases but he fallen himself. i am not here to condemn but just as reminder to us how no one is supceptible to the temptation and we should be on guard always. however, i think his prompt action to apologise & give up his position is comendable. he make a right move politically to avoid his party from being attack in the coming election. i think he learn from mr clinton mistake. another thing, pls check for hidden camera when u stay in hotel:)

went to penang on 29-30/12 with peter, lianwu & marco over the weekend. driving car myself, now i understand why penang driver is famous for the notoriousity on the road.. worst than kl haha. ok, on the other hand, going there for the 2nd time i notice that penang is very nice island, got long strech of beach, hill, tasty food, lot of new highrise condo, beautiful scenary, old historical building and intresting town.. they even got national park for jungle trekking.

10am. on the way up we drop-by ipoh, unfortunately the ngachoikai shop is not yet open so we went opposite and eat wantan mee instead

12pm. reach penang, we check-in our budget hotel at batu feringgi, it's call 'oceon inn hotel' price rm70/day for a quad-room. the place is quite old and run down but it's near the beach and most important cheap, suitable for us.

1pm. we went georgetown for the most-famous-coffeshop at penang... the shop is located at penang road (dont knoe what the name), it's near komtar so if u dont knoe just look for tall komtar building.. and go from there. penang trademark.. asam laksa, kui tiaw, prawn mee, lobak..

after gobble down all the delicacies, we go to have the famous phuachukang cendol beside the coffeeshop, if u order from coffeshop they will top-up 50cent

3pm. then we went to jalan-jalan kek lok si temple, it's near the penang hill (a.k.a bukit bendera). the intresting thing there is a turtle pond and they actually hv a strecth of hadicraft shop inside, beside the temple is quit big and on the hill,

so can see penang scenary from there

5pm. went to botanical garden. you can actually climb up penang hill from here. the garden located on the 'kaki bukit'. ok, the garden hv small waterfall, so you can picnic there and the garden quit big also, suitable for relax and jogging, got some monkeys there.

7pm.went to dinner near gurney drive.

10pm. pesta penang. ok at first i thought is it some international level festival. but actually it's like big pasar malam+funfare+malay rock concert+local exhibition.. the worst is we have to pay rm4/person to go in.. anyway the funfare hv some exciting games

next day... 8am. breakfast, go for some western food at batu feringgi coz already overdose of local stuff

10am. swimming at ferringgi beach, there hv many water sports activities like jet ski, banana boat, kayak, speedboad parachute, horse riding.. didnt take the photos, the water is brownise, not as clear like perhentian etc but it is nice and clean beach, below beach is near our hotel, hv less people

1pm. after check out, we went jalan-jalan at georgetown before hv another round of lunch at penang road... dont forget to buy some famous biskut tambun & tausapiah..

on the way back to taiping saw some coconuts kat 'tepi jalan', actually wan to drink at penang but no chance.. rm1.60 each

5pm. we went taiping lake, beautiful and big big lake.. the scenary is superb because of the mountainous background, for those with dslr camera, can take some nice photos here

8pm. at ipoh eat ngachoikai.. finally. many people..

today after work went to play basketball with my housemate. very long didnt play basketball. last time when in secondary school, use to play every evening 4.30pm-6.30pm.. i mean everyday.. unless heavy rain. we will jump up&down under the basket try to reach the ring and do a slam dunk like jordan (left pic), or practice backward shoot like kobe bryan (right pic). those day, dream of every boy (beside having a mountain bike) is to be basketball player. if u represent school, u r the star. hope one day can form a team to play. but here in kl, futsal is more popular than basketball. actually i hate fulsal, kaki bangku wht to do. haha.

Death is extremely rude. It respects no one's timetable. This was a busy week. I was trying to kick off a new ministry and preparing for a trip to Singapore. Then the news came. A good friend's father had passed away.

So I found myself in Penang, witnessing again first hand,the elaborate traditional funeral rituals of the Malaysian Chinese. These rituals had to be carefully done so that the soul of the deceased could reach the next world safely.

Intuitively, many cultures and religions view death as a journey from this world to the next. More than that, it seems to be universally recognised that this is not a journey to be taken without help.

Since death is the universal journey, it would seem prudent that we be prepared for the trip. Unfortunately, death is a taboo subject, even in the church.

What help can we expect for this trip?

1. Maps are difficult.

Imagine an eskimo trying to describe his/her home country to Bedouin who has never left the Sahara desert. There would be some parallels but many things would behard to describe.

John tells us something about the New Jerusalem in the Book of Revelation. But images of square cities with twelve gates mean little in a techno age largely ignorant of Jewish symbols.

And apart from John, and the other bible writers, everybody else is just guessing. It is hard to describe the nature of life after death. While maps are difficult, we do have a guide.

2. There is one reliable guide.

There is only one person who has successfully traveled the journey from this life to the next and come back to talkabout it.

Jesus said in John 14:1-3:
"Don't be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. Thereare many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am." (NLT)

Death is a journey into the unknown. But there is one reliable guide. His credentials are impeccable. He died...and rose again. He knows the safe way from this world to the next. He will guide us.

Are you fearful of death? Jesus' call to us, as always, is to trust. Trust in God. Trust in Him. He will see us through.

3. Meanwhile it makes sense to prepare for the trip.

Have you climbed Mount Kinabalu? If you are serious about making the climb then it would make sense to prepare yourself.

What will life be like in the next world? Wrestling with John's metaphors, we can safely conclude that heaven is a place where the focus is on God and on people. Material possessions are meaningless there since God provides all that we need.

Are you training to go there?
Then it would make sense for your life to revolve around God and people. And not material possessions. So that when the departure call does come, we will be ready and will not experience excessive culture shock when we makethe trip to the other side.

Focusing on God and people - that feels like a foretaste of heaven. I have only one more day to prepare for my trip to Singapore. Where is my passport? Do I have enough Singaporean currency?

Every trip requires preparation.

Melaka day trip

time flies.. it's end of the year.. and it's rainy season, hopefully will not flood.. today public holiday (Sultan's b'day) so went to jalan-jalan at kl, bought a 4gb kingston pendrive, now the price at lowyat is abt 1gb-rm30, 2gb-rm50, 4gb-rm80, 8gb-200.

early this month went to melaka for a day trip..

11am. zoo melaka (i heard is biggest in m'sia), have a good 2 hours walk on sunny day.. good exercise and relaxing js a bit hot.. the show is nice. this picture take with elephane, they will pose for u but hv to pay rm2 for the snap.

2pm. went for the famous hainan chicken rice ball. hv to que abt 10 minutes for it. i think the food that u hv to que taste fantastic.

3pm. walk around the town to see unique hadicraft, antique shop. and historical mosque, temples, hv a good dose of sunshine.

historical a farmosa ford, the Christ church. now there is shopping mall opposite a farmosa, something like sungai wang.

6pm. stroll at jonker street & hv some gula-melaka-enrich's cendol

9pm. after 20 minutes depressing que beside the road and facing danger of hit by car&bike, finally can eat the cannot-miss-satay-celup. pic: peter,ahwah,amy,liley.

The Quarter-Life Crisis

It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are a lot of things about yourself that you didn't know and may or may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.

You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you do not realize is that they are realizing that too and are not really cold or catty or mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you.

You look at your job. It is not even close to what you thought you would be doing or maybe you are looking for one and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and are scared.

You miss the comforts of college, of groups, of socializing with the same people on a constant basis. But then you realize that maybe they weren't so great after all.

You are beginning to understand yourself and what you want and do not want. Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging a bit more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and add things to your list of what is acceptable and what is not. You are insecure and then secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly change is the enemy and you try and cling on to the past with dear life but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you or you lay in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough to get to know better. You love someone but maybe love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you are not a bad person.

One night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap and getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic. You go through the same emotions and questions over and over and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision.

You worry about loans and money and the future and making a life for yourself and while wining the race would be great, right now you'd just like to be a contender!

What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it. We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out.
